Samsung Galaxy Alpha Now Available as an AT&T Exclusive

AT&T has just made available the newest Samsung device called the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. The carrier first officially announced this model in a press release made last week. What sets this model apart from the other Galaxy models is that it departs from the usual plastic material and instead sports an aluminum body.

Technical Specifications
  • LTE connectivity (Cat. 6, 300Mbps downlink)
  • 4.7" 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display with 312 ppi pixel density
  • Android OS v4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI
  • Octa-core processor (1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 + 1.8GHz Cortex-A15), Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset, Mali-T628MP6 GPU, 2GB of RAM
  • Optional quad-core processor (2.5GHz Krait 400), Snapdragon 801 chipset, Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM for a yet to be confirmed regional version
  • Cortex-A5 based Seiren audio co-processor (Exynos model only)
  • 12MP camera with LED flash, 2.1MP front-facing camera, 2160p video recording
  • 32GB of built-in storage
  • Fingerprint scanner with PayPal payments support and private mode access
  • Heart-rate monitor
  • Motion and gesture control, Air view
  • 1,860mAh battery

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is available in three colors namely dazzling white, charcoal black, and Frosted Gold. This smartphone’s price starts at $199.99 with a two year contract or $612.99 without a contract. The carrier’s Next subscribers can also avail of this device for $25.55 per month for 24 months with upgrade options after 18 months or $30.65 per month for 20 months with upgrade options every 12 months.

While this new model comes with impressive specifications what I don’t like about it is its measly 1,860mAh battery. The Exynos version of this smartphone gave a respectable battery life performance which is similar to that of the iPhone 5S. This result will however differ for the Snapdragon 801 version which will probably be much lower.

If you are interested in getting a new smartphone that has all the bells and whistles but don’t want the latest iPhone then you should check out the Samsung Galaxy Alpha which is currently being offered by AT&T.
