Troubleshooting A Samsung Galaxy S8 S8+ Dead Pixel Problem

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 and #S8+ are two of the best smartphone models that the South Korean giant has recently released. Both phones use a Super AMOLED display that provides an amazing resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels. The S8, however, uses a 5.8-inch screen while the S8+ uses a 6.2-inch screen. Consumers who have these models are very pleased with the performance of the display as it produces brilliant lifelike colors.

The display of this phone is not perfect though as some owners are complaining that their unit has a dead pixel. Some of the issues that people are experiencing are listed below.

“I received my S8+ last week. Switched from an iPhone and impressed so far. However, I found a little gray dot bang in the middle of the screen. I thought it was just dirt at first, but after a closer look, it's definitely within the screen. It looks like a dead pixel or a stuck one”
"Hi had new Samsung s8+ upgrade had phone 9 days noticed tonight I have  dead pixels on the screen"
“I have a dead pixel which is black on my s8+ and it stands out like a sore thumb when I'm trying to read stuff online.”

Listed above are just some of the few complaints that people have experienced with their S8 S8+.
The best thing that you can do in this scenario is to first verify if it is indeed a dead pixel by wiping the screen using a microfiber cloth. Sometimes dirt stuck on the display may be mistaken as a dead pixel.

If the issue persists then you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This way you can eliminate any software glitches that could be causing the problem.

To factory reset the S8 or S8+ follow the steps listed below.
  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up + Bixby + Power buttons at the same time. Release all buttons when the Phone vibrates.
  3. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  4. Select Yes. The reset will take several seconds to complete.
  5. Select Reboot system now.

Make sure that you have backed up your phone data before performing this step and that you know the Google email and password associated with the phone.

In case the dead pixel is still present then Samsung has a working policy on this.
“ The Dead pixel warranty applies when your mobile phone display contains certain dead pixels as per below table within the standard warranty period on your mobile phone display which SAMSUNG will replace/replenish your defective mobile phone display."

For a Super AMOLED Display, the claimable dead pixel count is 3 or over 3.

You will then have to bring your phone to the Samsung store or the store where you purchased the phone then claim the warranty.
